Vehicles not using major roundabouts for preference
There is an issue with traffic attempting to use the A1 northbound turn off to New Road as a convenient point at which to turn south down the A1 and often also then to cross lanes of frequently too fast moving traffic.
The better alternative would be to only allow this at the major roundabout at the junction of the A1 and Bedford Road where doing so is safe. The extra distance is minimal.
It is recommended that a no U turn sign be placed on the A1 northbound signpost for the New Road turnoff not allowing U turns and that provision for a turn is available a short distance on at the roundabout.
